My prints are produced one at a time on a variety of surfaces so that I have complete control of the quality. Many have said that I ought to specialize in wildlife, Native American, western…whatever. There’s one reason why I never have: I GET BORED.
I also concluded several years ago that one of the best ways to make myself a better artist is to do something different in each drawing…even if it’s only one part of the drawing. For example, when I started the buffalo, I had never done thick hair like that on the buffalo’s shoulders. And that’s what I encourage my students to do. Don’t be afraid of anything. It may not come out right to begin with, but if you stick with it you will get there. And in the end you will be a better artist.
